youth 4 beaches
Youth 4 Beaches is a non-profit organisation started by Briody Fahey. Her goal with her organisation is to get local youth leading healthy, sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyles within the community, and make it fun at the same time!
They do monthly clean ups and reduce the amount of rubbish entering the ocean. Some things that Youth 4 Beaches come across in their clean ups are cigarette butts, fishing line, balloons, cans, plastic bottles, straws, plastic bags and the list keeps on going. Youth 4 Beaches usually collects three large bags of rubbish each clean up day. This reduces the amount of rubbish that enters the ocean and also reduces the amount of animals that die and become injured from rubbish. A lot of the wildlife that die and become injured from rubbish never get noticed.
All the rubbish gets sorted out and the statistics and results from the clean ups go to Tangaroa Blue which is a data base for marine debris
It is clear that one person can make a difference and can start an organisation. Stay up to date with Youth 4 Beaches at their Facebook page, Instagram page or twitter page.
