batavia flying fox sanctuary
Gabrielle Friebe and Peter Richards purchased a 7 acre property in the Sunshine Coast (Woodford QLD). They turned it into Batavia Flying Fox Sanctuary. They wanted a place that wasn’t in the middle of the city and has good habitat near by (there is a large forest on the property) and all the boxes were ticked. So they built two aviary’s. One for creche and one for the ones nearly ready to release. The aviary with the Flying Foxes nearly ready to release is 10x8m and 4m high. Batavia mainly gets Grey-Headed Flying Foxes and Black Flying Foxes but occasionaly Little Red Flying Foxes.
what to do if you see an injured bat?
The first rule about seeing an injured bat is not to touch it, other wise it will be euthanased! Pick up the phone and call 1300 animal and they will find a organisation that will come to rescue the bat.
