I am very honoured to be this year's Gold Coasts Clean Up Australia Day ambassador. It is incredible the amount of rubbish that has been collected during this event in previous years. In the first 23 years they collected 275000 tons of rubbish and in 2011 16500 tons of rubbish were collected. In the past 20 years Australians have volunteered over 24 million hours in this event. Clean Up Australia Day was started in 1989 by Ian Kiernan who wanted to reduce the amount of plastic in Sydney Harbour. Now thousands of Australians are joining in on this day and are cleaning up our country. I encourage you to be part of this very important event on Sunday 5th of March. If you would like to create your own clean up site click here or if you would like to join in a clean up site click here.

This morning I attended a tree planting day event at Schusters Park. It was wonderful to see so many people attending despite the heat and enjoying helping to restore natural areas. At this event 760 trees were planted. Not only will this help Koalas it will also greatly benefit other local wildlife. A lot of the NaturallyGC planting days are here and are helping to make a koala corridor. It was so great to see how much all the trees have grown from previous plantings I have participated in. If you would like to download the NaturallyGC Booklet click here.
The City Of Gold Coast are drafting a city wide Koala conservation plan. Please do the survey here to tell them what actions you believe would be the most beneficial to local koala conservation. Thank You For Reading Enviro Warrior |
