At the moment Ozharvest Gold Coast is running a food drive for homeless people. Come and bring some non perishable food to them at 10 Beach Road, Surfers Paradise (see map below). The food you give them they will give to less fortunate people on the Gold Coast. This food run will go until the 24th of December. The amount of homeless people on the Gold Coast has sky rocked to 4500 homeless people. Up to 40 families live in their cars on the Gold Coast. Ozharvest is an organisation that rescues food that would other wise go into landfill and give that food to less privileged people. This not only helps people but it also helps the environment because food wastage is a huge contributor to global warming. To learn more about Ozharvest click here.

As Christmas is coming up I wanted to share with you some ways you can have a eco friendly Christmas.
The tips are below:
  1. Only buy sustainable seafood.
  2. Don't leave Christmas tree lights on when no one is there as this wastes energy and contributes to global warming.
  3. Use solar powered christmas lights to decorate your home.
  4. Get creative and make your own Christmas decorations out of things that would otherwise go in the bin. Your family could have a competition for the best decoration made from reusable and recycled items.
  5. Only buy presents and products that have low or no packaging.
  6. Buy presents that will benefit wildlife conservation and the environment (animal adoption, donation, volunteer to a cause ect).
  7. Buy something that the person will love, not something that is easily broken or something that will be thrown out in a few weeks time.
  8. Put the presents into reusable bags and don't wrap them up with wrapping paper that will only end up in the bin.
  9. Have the environment in mind when doing the grocery shopping. Only buy RSPCA approved meat and palm oil free products.
