I had a great day today for National Tree Day. I went to the Gold Coast Botanic Gardens where Friends Of The Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens had community tree planting for National Tree Day. I planted some rare plants. It was great to participate with the community planting plants and trees. It was also great to see some trees there that were over 100 years old!! I was happy to see that they were preserved. I also met some fantastic people today. I met a girl named Sam who is also passionate about the environment just like me. I also met Kate Heffernan who is a member of Friends of the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens. The three of us had a great chat about environmental issues and conservation. Sam told me how friends and her have spoke to 20 Senators at Parliament house. Their group specialises in stopping mining and dumping in The Great Barrier Reef. Kate talked to me about some of the plants in the garden. She was involved in organising the tree planting day and had done an excellent job. I found Sam and Kate very inspiring and they made me feel like I wasn't the only one that cared about the environment. I also loved the walk around the gardens. I especially enjoyed the wetland section. A great thing about this garden is it has plants that attract Richmond Birdwing Butterflies and Black Cockatoos. Hope you all had a great National Tree Day!!
