Imagine giving birth to a 200 pound baby. Well that is what Elephants do. Their gestation is 22 months. When the calf is born it is a team effort. All the female elephants will help to raise the baby. They are called Allomothers.
An Orangutans gestation is for about 8.5 months. The female will usually give birth to one but it has been known for them to have twins. After humans orangutans stay with their young the longest. They are together for 6-7 years. Their mother will teach them everything. Orangutans only give birth once every 8 years.
1. Red-Knobbed Hornbill
This Hornbill lives on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. They will lay their eggs in tree hollows. Their eggs are a food source for monitor lizards. The mother hornbill will stay in the tree hollow for two months to protect and incubate their eggs, not eating at all.
