Eastern Barred Bandicoot
The Kirrae Whurrong aboriginal people from the western Victoria call the Eastern Barred Bandicoot "Warren".
The Eastern Barred Bandicoot is found in Grasslands in hampton in Victoria.
Eastern Barred Bandicoots love to eat insects and in captivity they feed of mealworms & crickets.
Eastern Barred Bandicoots have one of the shortest gestation of all mammals! It is 12.5 days!
99.9% of their habitat is destroyed for housing & agriculture and being prey for feral cats and especially feral foxes. Companied these two threats makes for a extremely endangered animal.
Zoos Victoria has been doing a fantastic job at bringing the Eastern Barred Bandicoot back from the brink. They breed these incredibly endangered animals in two of their predator proof zoos. They have even introduced some back into the wild to places that don't have feral cats & foxes. Zoos Victoria also they are doing research on these animals and has made up a team of specially trained dogs to try and eliminate the threat of foxes & cats! But to do the dog program they need more donations so please donate at, Save The Bandicoot Appeal. They are also spreading the message about the Eastern Barred Bandicoot. Zoos Victoria has saved this species from being extinct!
