Grassland Earless Dragon
The Grassland Earless Dragon lives in temperate grasslands, dominated by wallaby grasses, tussock grasses and spear grasses. They shelter in burrows and under rocks.
Behaviour and Locomotion
This tiny type of Dragon is very active and some adults move 40–110 meters a day!
Threats & Former Habitat
This lizard has gone extinct in many areas that it used to live in. Grassland Earless Dragons used to live in western Victoria, NSW and the ACT. The last confirmed sighting in Victoria was in 1967! They don't live there because of habitat destruction for houses and agriculture, changes in fire patterns, weeds taking over, pesticides (effects it and what it eats), feral animals like sheep, cattle, rabbits, foxes & cats
Population surveys are being carried out in Victoria but none have been found yet.
How You Can Help
- Be a part of the population surveys
- Don't use pesticides
